Four Ethiopian Parties To Unite
Addis Ababa, January 1, 2019 (FBC) – Semayawi Party (Blue Party), Ethiopian Democratic Party (EDP), Patriotic Ginbot 7 and Unity Party (UP) said they are forming a new party.
The new party to be formed at the end of March will focus on citizen based politics, it was noted.
During its 2nd regular session held on Sunday, the Blue Party headed by Yeshiwas Assefa declared itself defunct so as to become a model for other parties.
“Our decision is aimed at becoming a model and other parties were also working to follow suit,” he said in an exclusive interview with FBC.
The new party to be formed in a merger deal will focus on Ethiopian unity, freedom of citizens, ownership of land and people empowerment, he said.
Andualem Arage, former member of Unity Party (UP) said Blue Party’s decision is commendable.
The new party will comprise politicians who have common objectives, he indicated.
