Peace Spoilers Won’t Be Tolerated, Says Oromia Police Commission

Addis Ababa, December 24, 2018 (FBC) –Commissioner of the Oromia Police Commission, Alemayehu Ejigu, said the regional state will not tolerate forces that strives to spoil peace in the region.

The efforts made over the past six months to resolve the problems in western parts of the state peacefully cost the regional state a lot, the Commissioner told journalists today.

About 29 civilians and 12 police officers, including two zonal department heads, were killed during the past four months alone, Alemayehu said.

Moreover, 77 police officers and 40 militias were injured, he said.

Some public institutions in West and East Wollega, Kelem Wollega and Horo Guduru Wollega zones of the regional state have ceased providing services, the Commissioner indicated.

About 2,072 Kalashnikovs were ransacked from police stations in Kelem Wollega and West Wollega zones and more than 3 million birr was stolen from government offices and banks in West Wollega zones, he stated

Private properties were also looted, he added.

The Commissioner blamed armed members of the Oromo Liberation Front (OLF) for the problems in Western parts of Oromia.

OLF soldiers are violating the agreements reached between the Front and the Oromo Democratic Party (ODP) after months of dialogues, he said.

The Commissioner finally stated that police will step up its efforts of combating illegal activities in the regional state.
