Premier Urges Tax Payers To Develop Enhanced Mindset Of Tax Payment Responsibility
Addis Ababa, December 21, 2018 (FBC) – A national tax revenue movement has been launched today at ceremony held in Addis Ababa at the African Union (AU) headquarters.
Senior government officials, including Prime Minister Dr Abiy Ahmed, are in attendance of the launch ceremony being held under the theme “Delivering on my Responsibility! Demanding My Rights!”
In his remark, the Premier said that taxation is one of the critical foundations of a country’s civilization and development.
It is vital to achieve durable peace and justice, defeat poverty, build capacity of the country and ensure social security protection.
He urged tax payers to develop an enhanced mindset of tax payment responsibility through which they demonstrate their love of country and family.
According to the Premier, Ethiopia’s tax to GDP ratio currently stands at 10.7 percent.
The government has allocated 2.3 billion birr to ensure the country’s water, energy, education, health and irrigation development needs, of which 75% is to be covered from tax revenues.
The movement organized by the Ministry of Revenues aims to highlight the role of a just tax revenue collection system in realizing Ethiopia’s ascendancy to middle income status by 2025.
